Ureteral cancer treatment
So far, the standard treatment method for patients with renal pelvis or ureteral urothelial carcinoma is still surgical treatment, with the resection range including the affected kidney+full length of the ureter+part of the bladder around the ureteral opening. However, for patients with anatomical (congenital solitary kidney) or functional (contralateral kidney without function) solitary kidney or both kidneys suffering from renal pelvis or ureterouracial epithelial carcinoma, if the tumor biopsy pathology confirms that the cancer cells belong to low stage and low grade, those with limited lesions can consider surgery that preserves the kidney, such as endoscopic electrocautery, endoscopic resection, or partial ureterectomy. For patients with advanced renal pelvis or ureterouracial epithelial carcinoma who cannot undergo surgery, systemic chemotherapy can be considered. The commonly used chemotherapy regimens include methotrexate, vinblastine, doxorubicin, and cisplatin (M-VAC), as well as gemcitabine/cisplatin (GC) regimen, which is one of the standard treatment regimens. Other options include carboplatin/paclitaxel, docetaxel/cisplatin, and interferon α/ 5-fluorouracil/cisplatin regimen.
