Nasopharyngeal carcinoma diagnosis
If the doctor suspects the patient of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a biopsy of the nasopharyngeal lesion is required, which is the most important means of diagnosis. Nasopharyngoscopy examination includes indirect nasopharyngoscopy and fiber nasopharyngoscopy, which can be seen in the posterior wall, lateral wall, posterior nostril, posterior nasal cavity, eustachian tube, and back of soft palate of the nasopharynx. Bite tissue examination is performed in suspicious areas. Nasopharyngeal biopsy is usually performed in the endoscopic room, and local anesthesia is generally performed. If it is necessary to remove and biopsy cervical lymph nodes and other superficial masses, it should usually be performed in head and neck surgery. After obtaining the specimen, the pathologist examines and searches for tumor cells under a microscope, and if necessary, further immunohistochemical examination is performed to confirm the diagnosis.
