The symptoms of lung cancer vary from person to person. Some people with lung cancer have no symptoms. Often, symptoms are easily confused with common respiratory illnesses such as bronchitis or pneumonia, delaying an accurate diagnosis.

The most common symptoms of lung cancer include:

The cough doesn't go away, and it gets worse over time

Persistent chest pain, often aggravated by deep breathing, coughing, or laughing

Pain in the arm or shoulder

Coughing up blood or rusty phlegm

Shortness of breath

Short of breath

Grating on the ear

Infections like pneumonia or bronchitis don't go away or often come back

Swelling of the neck and face

Loss of appetite or weight loss

Feeling weak or tired

Widening of the fingertips and nails is also known as "clubbing"

If lung cancer spreads to other parts of the body, it can cause:

ostealgia

Weakness or numbness in the arms or legs

Headache, dizziness or seizures

Balance problems or unsteady gait

Jaundice of the skin and eyes (yellow)

Swollen lymph nodes in the neck or shoulder

These symptoms don't always mean you have lung cancer. However, it is important to discuss any symptoms of lung cancer with your doctor, as they may also indicate other health problems.
